The Yen is stable in the middle of the week. Overview for 25.01.2017

25.01.2017

On Wednesday, the USD/JPY is falling a little bit; the Yen is looking stable.

The Japanese Yen is slowly recovering against the USD after moving downwards yesterday. The current quote for the instrument is 113.64.

Today’s statistics showed that the Balance of Trade in Japan in December 2016 was ¥641.4B. It is less than the November reading, but better than expected.

The Japanese Export in December added 5.4% y/y after losing 0.4% y/y in the previous month. The Import decreased by 2.6% y/y after losing 0.8% in November. The latter indicator has been falling for 24 months in a row.

Japan exports its own-produced goods to the USA (+1.3% y/y in December) and Asian countries (+12% y/y). If taken separately, the export to China expanded by 12.5% y/y.

On the whole, the Yen remains under the influence of the capital market’s positive attitude towards the USD and the mixed macroeconomic data relating to the Japanese economy. In such circumstances, the national currency is unlikely to strengthen a lot.
