Learn more about copy trading

CopyFX is a copy-trading system that allows users to connect and replicate each other's strategies.

Traders can share their copy-trading strategies and earn commissions from the profits generated by their subscribers.

Alternatively, traders can become subscribers, follow top-rated members, and generate results without installing a trading terminal.

CopyFX is integrated with RoboForex, eliminating the need for additional software.

Copy trading and social trading are synonymous. Both describe a system where one user can replicate another's strategy. In this sense, CopyFX can be called a "social trading system."

Any RoboForex account, except demo accounts, is suitable for copy trading. Learn more about our account types here.

Tips for selecting an account

  1. Copy trading is available on all platforms provided by RoboForex: MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, and R StocksTrader. However, it is not possible to copy strategies across platforms.

When choosing a strategy to copy, check which platform the strategy author uses and open a corresponding account.

  2. The closer your account settings (e.g., account type, base currency, leverage) match those of your selected trader, the better.
  3. If unsure where to start, open a Pro account on MetaTrader 4. As the most popular account among CopyFX traders, it offers a broader selection of strategies to subscribe to without compromising the match between account types.

Use the Traders rating to filter and sort traders based on factors such as:

  • Profit/Loss (an overall strategy’s profit)
  • Maximum drawdown (% of Equity that was lower than the account’s Balance)
  • Account opened, days (how many days this trader has shared their strategy in CopyFX)
  • Investors (how many investors are subscribed to them)

A copying mode is a setting you select when subscribing to a strategy. It uses a specific ratio parameter to determine the volume in which the trades from the strategy are copied to your account.

Types of copying modes:

  1. Proportional. Trades are copied with the adjusted volume depending on the Equities on the Trader’s account and yours at the moment the trade is made.
  2. Classic. Trades are copied with the exact volume the trader sets, with an option to multiply it by the ratio parameter (Equity is not considered).
  3. Fixed. Trades are copied to your account at the exact volume you set as a ratio parameter, regardless of the trader’s volume or Equity.

Copying modes in practice:

Proportional

Example 1:
You set a multiplier (ratio parameter) of 1.00.
Trader's Equity = 2,000 USD
Your Equity = 5,000 USD
Original trade’s volume = 2.50 lots
Copied trade’s volume = 6.25 lots (1 * 2.5 * (5,000/2,000))

Given that your Equity is higher, the trade volume will be higher.

Example 2:
You set a multiplier (ratio parameter) of 2.50.
Trader's Equity = 8,000 USD
Your Equity = 2,000 USD
Original trade’s volume = 2.00 lots
Copied trade’s volume = 1.25 lots (2.5 * 2 * (2,000/8,000))

Note: Since your Equity is lower, even with a large multiplier, the volume of the copied trade will be less than the original trade’s volume.

Classic

Example 1:
You set a multiplier (ratio parameter) of 0.50.
Original trade’s volume = 2.50 lots
Copied trade’s volume = 1.25 lots (2.5 * 0.5)

Example 2:
You set a multiplier (ratio parameter) of 2.00.
Original trade’s volume = 0.75 lots
Copied trade’s volume = 1.50 lots (2 * 0.75)

Fixed

Example 1:
You set a ratio parameter of 0.10.
Original trade’s volume = 0.83 lots
Copied trade’s volume = 0.10 lots

Example 2:
You set a ratio parameter of 1.50.
Original trade’s volume = 0.79 lots
Copied trade’s volume = 1.50 lots

Important rules:

  1. The volume ratio or multiplier can range from 0.01 to 100.00 and be specified up to two decimal places.
  2. If a trade volume exceeds an instrument’s minimum or maximum allowable range, it will be adjusted to the closest valid volume (unless the "round down" option is used).
  3. If the trade volume does not align with the trading instrument’s volume step, it will be rounded to the nearest valid volume based on your rounding settings.

You can manage your subscriptions in the Members Area. For each strategy you’re subscribed to, you can:

  1. Pause it. After the Pause mode is enabled:
    • New trades from the strategy won’t be copied to your account
    • All trades copied prior to that moment will remain open and will be closed if the author of the strategy closes them
    • You will still be displayed as an active subscriber to this strategy
  2. Cancel it
    • All trades copied before that point will remain open and entirely under your control
    • Any commissions due for closed trades will be written off your account within minutes of the subscription termination

Traders who share their strategies in CopyFX display their commission rates publicly, and you can learn them prior to the subscription. The most popular commission scheme is the Performance Fee, where you pay a percentage of your overall profit to the trader.

Read more about the commission schemes here.

The commission due is held on your account until it is transferred to the trader either at the end of an investment period or after the subscription cancellation.

You can withdraw money from your account whenever you want even while having an active subscription. The only amount you can’t withdraw is the commission allocated but not yet transferred to the trader’s account.
