Bank of America is an international financial corporation that works in three areas: personal lending services, asset management support for corporations, and trading on currency, stock, and commodity exchanges. In 2015, Bank of America ranked 23rd on the Forbes list of the biggest companies in the world. A year later, the corporation made over $83 billion.

The company was founded in San Francisco in 1904 as "Bank of Italy", and significantly differed from other banks because it served the middle class and was particularly popular with immigrants. Following the big 1906 earthquake, the Bank of Italy building survived unlike many other buildings that were housing banks. The founder, Amadeo Giannini, took advantage of this – he used the resources that were left to lend credits to the population, thereby improving the company’s position. In 1929, Bank of Italy merged with Bank of America, and kept the name of the latter.
